Life {lately}

Wow, I just signed in this morning to write a quick little post and WordPress alerted me that today is my third blogging anniversary. Crazy. Seriously, that’s nuts! I’ve always loved journaling, taking pictures, and reminiscing – so, this seems to be a good match for me! I have loved getting to know you guys and sharing our little journey with each of you 🙂 Thanks for making this worthwhile for me! Three years ago we were just dating, living in an apartment and Hunter was still a little pup. Now, we’ve been married for almost two years (where did the time go??), have two dogs and tackle home improvement projects like nobody’s business. It’s funny how things change! Who knows where we’ll be next year or even next week, but I’m happy that I get to share it all with you 🙂

I had a small computer malfunction that has slowed my actual camera picture editing. Thankfully, it seems to be fixed now (yay!), but that means I don’t have all the goodies ready for sharing. Oh well!  I still have a boat load of pictures on my phone that I cherish as well. Sometimes I feel like my phone pictures are a better representation of my life anyway. Not staged, not edited for the perfect lighting… just life.

Before we get started on those, here are a couple quick things that are worth mentioning that don’t have pictures attached to them…

  • For the last two weeks I’ve had a terrible pain in my knee and Alex has had some serious back problems. We’ve almost worn out our heating pad and ice rice bags (thanks, Suzzette :)). We took some time off our normal workout schedule and things seemed to get better. However, this weekend my knee took a serious downward spiral. I’ll be picking up a brace this evening to see if that helps – if not, I’ll be making my way to an orthopedic doctor.
  • Remember how I told you that we were asked if we wanted our bathroom to be on HGTV? Sadly, I found out last week that it won’t work out. Apparently my “before” pictures were not high enough quality. It’s not like I can just re-stage the bathroom and take new pictures, you know? There’s nothing I can do about that! The old bathroom was hideous, dungeon-ey and falling apart. Of course the pictures didn’t look as shiny as the new bathroom. I was pretty disappointed but – maybe next time!
  • Alex is about to finish up his second school semester after taking a long hiatus when he joined the military. This will be his second semester in a row getting straight A’s!! (Fingers crossed that I’m not jinxing anything, although he only has one week left and 99% of his work is already done!)

Okay, here’s what our life has looked like over the last few weeks —

What have you guys been up to? Have you taken any quick trips to get out of town? Does anyone else in the world take as many pictures of their dogs as I do? Are you getting into any new hobbies? Sewing? Anyone… anyone??

Labor Day Weekend

Hi kiddos. Happy Hump Day!

You know it takes me awhile to edit and post pictures, so the fact that these are not even two weeks late, honestly… impresses the pants off me.Labor Day

For the long Labor Day weekend, we traveled up to my family’s house in West Virginia with good friends, family, and a house full of dogs. Yep. Five dogs.

Can you see Bailey? He kinda blends in with the darkness. He’s majestic like that. We call him Christian Bale sometimes. Bale… Bailey… Dark Knight. No?

DSC_0151

Look at the little Hunter Bud… He’s so handsome!

DSC_0153

Cuties. Anyway, we traveled to WV with our friends, DJ and Tara (by the way – it’s Tara’s birthday today! YAY! Happy Birthday!)

DSC_0144

We did a little hiking, we took the pups swimming, we rode some bikes and four wheelers. We people watched at Wal-Mart, you know… the usual. We did a lot, but at the same time… we did nothing. A perfect long weekend!

DSC_0148

Soon my mom and her boyfriend, Don, joined us. We all played epic rounds of cornhole and, of course, drank too much.

DSC_0177

We bought stupid hilarious shirts at Wal-Mart (hey, they were less that five bucks!) and made silly faces at the camera.

Hunter even made a new friend! Although, I’m not exactly sure his “new friend” was so happy about it…

We made delicious food… and may have had a slight food explosion. GET THIS — we made a giant tray of enchiladas in a.. you know, freezer to oven safe Pyrex dish. After I took the tray out and let it cool, it COMPLETELY SHATTERED. Thankfully, none of us (or the 30948 dogs that were there) got injured..

It was still a bummer that we made this delicious dinner and then couldn’t eat it though!

Each night we played Spoons for hours and hours. Remember spoons from childhood? One less spoon than person… trying to get four of a kind? Well.. basically take that… and drink the whole time. Classic.

And then this mess happened..

They made up though…

Silly boys, games are for girls. What? That’s not how that saying goes?

There was canoodling.

DSC_0174

There was some of this… (cough cough, Tara….)

DSC_0154

It wasn’t all fun though. We worked hard too! There were a few fallen trees blocking access to a portion of the property. We hauled our butts up there and started choppin’ down!

Check out this turtle we found!           photo 4

All in all, we had a fantastic weekend away and a nice little break from our laundry room debacle.

The pups were exhausted on the way home!!

I know Labor Day feels like forever ago and we’re already dreaming about our next long weekend, but did you do anything fun over the holiday weekend? We typically go to WV every year. Do you guys have any Labor Day traditions too?

To see some of our other trips to WV, check out this one, this one, this one, this guest post, this girls weekend, this 4th of July, this one, this epic 4th with lots of fireworks, pre-engagement, engaged!,our celebration, OH and you can’t forget these beautiful fall leaves! (just to name a few Winking smile)

Happy Fourth

Happy Independence Day!! I hope you had a fantastic weekend and enjoyed a little patriotism. Wasn’t it wonderful to have the day off? I had an amazing weekend and cannot wait to share it with you. Hopefully, you put a little time aside tonight – because this is going to be a long one!

DSC_0537

Thankfully, I was able to get off work a little early on Friday! Alex, Mike (one of the husband’s classmates), and I jetted up to our place in West Virginia for the long weekend! Even though we left early, we still got stuck in a ton of traffic! Once we arrived, we were greeted with fresh blueberries off the bush, a drink, and a deck of cards by my mom and Donna.

DSC_0328

Every morning we awoke with the little chirps of newly hatched birdies.

DSC_0351

Our friends, Joe and Suzzette, drove up to the house on Saturday morning. Shortly thereafter, the boys were back out the door. The men drove for over an hour just to find the perfect spot to buy fireworks. And oh man, did they buy some fireworks! When they got back, they were as giddy as schoolboys. They quickly set everything out so we could admire their purchases.

DSC_0358

That’s a lot of loot, isn’t it?

Joe and Suzzette are moving to New York in a few weeks. We keep trying to act like it’s not going to happen, but this weekend it was hard to deny. Many times it was mentioned that, “we’ll still have to drive down here from NY for long weekends” or “we can still have just as much fun when you guys come to visit us.” We’ll miss them dearly and I keep hoping that we can find some miracle to change their minds! Of course, we wish them both the best of luck though!!

DSC_0359

It was definitely nice to have a weekend together with my fresh husband. Hunter even behaved for some family photo time.

DSC_0360

Of course, we cooked a boat load of food. I have so many recipes to post! Just a heads up now that I may be blowing up your inbox/facebook/twitter/google reader with lots of yummy recipes in the days to come!

DSC_0366

After the women spent the afternoon cooking while the boys were off gallivanting, the boys even washed the dishes after dinner.

DSC_0367

Then they got ready to “blow sh*t up” (as they say)! It was fun watching them act like kids all weekend even though we got tired of saying, “please wait till it gets dark!!!”

DSC_0369

DSC_0375

We saw lots of crazy wildlife!!

DSC_0379

DSC_0397

And we chased a GIANT turtle to the get across the road safely!

DSC_0398

We spent a fun afternoon out! The Purple Fiddle was a special restaurant that served beer and wine out of mason jars. Thankfully I love mason jars and acquired two new ones Winking smile .

Unfortunately, they were packed and it took over an hour for our appetizers to be ready. You know, hummus is a really time consuming endeavor. We were starving by the time it arrived – but at least, we had some laughs!

DSC_0403

DSC_0404

Then we got back home and got silly! I asked everyone if this picture was “blog appropriate” and you know what – we decided who cares! We’re married, silly, and in love. Sometimes we show it in weird ways. Judge us if you please, but this is my life and my blog after all!!

DSC_0381

I miss these kids already! If I got down on bended knee – could I change your mind about moving???

DSC_0384

Oh, and this guy!!! It was such a pleasure to meet a new friend! He was hilarious and really fit in with our group and sense of humor. Hopefully we can talk the Army into relocating Mike, his wife, and three kids from Missouri to the great state of Maryland! We would love to have them as neighbors.

DSC_0392

We patiently waited for night to fall. While doing so, my mom and Donna danced their hineys off!

DSC_0408

Then the show started!!!

Now, I’m back at home doing laundry and unpacking from the weekend as the dog is passed out in front of the door. I’m feeling uncomfortably full from all the food we inhaled this weekend and I have a feeling that it’s going to take weeks to recover!

Although I may feel slightly bloated, I had something to smile about when I got home! My garden exploded over the weekend. Although, it was a little dry – I was able to pick a few squash (bigger than my head), cucumbers, peppers and strawberries. I now have three pumpkins that are bigger than a cat and little baby watermelons that I cannot wait to dig my teeth into.

I’m off to go gulp a gallon of water and put on a face mask. I hope you had a fantastic weekend!

Next up — BLUEBERRY MUFFINS that will rock your socks off!

HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!
