Sunday Musings

I have a list of, oh, I don’t know, 39 things I’d love to chit chat about today. None of these little tidbits have any cohesion between them – so, get ready for a terribly random post. It’s definitely been awhile since I completely downloaded my brain on you, so I guess it’s about time I get started.

First — let’s get the party going with some music. I know this CD has been out for at least six months already, but… I just love it. Literally, I could replay every track over and over again and still look forward to hearing the same song again. Obviously, I have a small obsession problem. When I was a little girl, I used to watch Beauty and the Beast over and over and over. Not kidding. I would finish the movie and immediately rewind it, just to watch it six more times. I don’t know how I got from music to Beauty and the Beast… I warned you that this post would be random.

Anyway — here’s one of my favorite tracks off Mumford and Son’s Babel CD

I also like this song by The Lumineers, this song by The Avett Brothers (song doesn’t start until 43 seconds in), this song by Melody Gardot (no video attached to this one) and this song by Griffin House. OH! And I really like this song by The Gospel Whiskey Runners. Can I do one more? Thaaaanks. This is a great song by City and Colour. Okay. Sorry. Little off tangent there.. but like I said, I haven’t done a random post like this for way too long.

Alright, now that we’ve set the mood, let’s get to the meat of the post, shall we?

Just wanted to update our friends and family: Alex left Saturday mid-morning for a couple week long trip for work. I’ve pretty much grown accustomed to having him around all the time. Whenever I start to get sad or feel lonely, I try to remind myself that he was home for almost the entire year last year and before I know it, he’ll be home again. Crossing my fingers and toes for lots of safe and stress-free flights for him!

Since I had plenty of time to kill today, I decided to tackle some really fun tasks that I’ve been putting off for.. oh, well, forever.

I took everything out of my dresser and night stand. I sorted through all my old crap, threw some stuff away and made a giant pile to take to Goodwill. Then I re-folded every single item and put the keepers back in my dresser. This hasn’t been done since we moved over two years ago! One thing I learned —

DSC_0210Apparently I like to dress in every color of the rainbow at the gym.

I also emptied my nightstand — which was really the biggest offender. Definitely not the most thrilling task for today… but! I found something (slightly important) throughout the ordeal.

Yep. Now I can see.

I also found my super fancy one-piece bathing suit that I bought freshman year in college when I decided that swimming for exercise would be my new thing. That lasted a good three days when I realized that… um.. swimming is hard! Now that the gym we belong to has a few pools (seriously.. a few) that bathing suit may come in handy. I also conveniently found some goggles (I’m not joking, these were in my nightstand).  After trying it all on, I may have cried a little. Uhhh. Let’s just say that it wasn’t my best look 🙂

Okay, let’s move on. Cue: Awkward subject change.

This year, Alex and I decided that we would use a portion of our tax return on ourselves (imagine that!) Last year we had the bathroom fiasco, which pretty much sucked up our return. It actually felt pretty damn good to spoil ourselves instead of spending all our money on the house! He picked out some parts for his truck and I decided to get two new lenses for my camera. I’m sure you can imagine that I’ve had a lot of fun over the past few weeks playing around with them 🙂

This one is my favorite —

Here’s a close up of the glass that Alex blew up in NY a few weeks ago…

DSC_0190And the big ol’ truck that has stolen him from me.. Kidding… kind of 🙂

DSC_0172And this is the second, smaller fixed lens that I got.

IMG_0938I still need some practice with these little man. Here’s one photo with the baby lens…

Has this post been random enough for you yet?

Yesterday my mom and I found these…

You know that I’ve since started calling my slippers “foot duvets,” right? I just can’t imagine a group of people sitting around a board room trying to think of a new marketing strategy for slippers. Literally someone got paid to think of the term “foot duvet.” Gosh, I’d love to sit next to that person on an airplane.

This picture kills me.

Alright. That’s enough random stuff for one night! I have some more though provoking posts coming up in the near future, I promise 😉

But for now, I have a very important date with a JUST CLEANED (I tell ya, I’m on top of it today) bathtub and it looks something like this!

What music are you listening to? Any CDs you could never get sick of? Buying anything fun for yourself lately? Any other people spring cleaning?

Random Acts of Kindness

Before we delve into tonight’s chatter, let’s check out how big Jakey is getting! (If you haven’t been here for awhile – No, Alex and I did not get a third doggie – he’s my mom’s new puppy!)

He’s past the “I-sleep-all-the-time” puppy stage – now he’s got an incredible amount of energy and just goes, goes, goes! Whew, thankfully he doesn’t keep me up every night!

Back on track — In the last two days I have experience two amazing, random acts of kindness that I can’t help but to share with you.

Do you remember when I wrote a post about how we got and then proceeded to get rid of mildew from our carpet? No? Well, check it out here. My main purpose for writing that post was to save at least one poor soul who was frantically searching the internet for ways to save their stanky (yes, I meant to say stanky. so what?) carpet.

We spent FOREVER a long time searching for the miracle answer that would save our carpet. Honestly, neither of us thought it could be saved and we feared we would have to replace our carpet only one year after we installed it.Thankfully, we found that miracle answer with the good people at Bissell and their wonderful Big Green Machine.

About a week after I wrote that post, I received an email from Bissell thanking me for the positive review. Not only was I shocked that I received a heartwarming pat on the back, Jeff (the amazing Bissell guy!) ended his email by wishing Hunter a great recovery from his recent surgery.

Yeah, that happened.

How awesome was that?! If that wasn’t enough, I received an incredibly generous gift from Bissell in the mail yesterday. I’m embarrassed to say, but I’m actually pumped to clean just so I can use my new stuff! We’re also working on getting a giveaway ready for you, the awesome blog readers that you are. Stay tuned for that little baby!

Not only does Bissell make an amazing product that I completely stand behind, their employees are sincere, wonderful individuals.

They made Hunter happy. That’s for sure.

Another GIANT thank you to Bissell for making my day more than once!

Something else wonderful happened. Well, first it was bad… then it was good.

Here goes…

So we’ve got an acre of land to maintain. That, my friends, is a lot of grass.

People are always surprised when I tell them this, but yes, I cut the grass. Definitely not all the time, but when your husband is gone for months at a time, well — someone’s gotta do it… And I sure am not spending good money to have someone else cut my grass when I am perfectly able albeit lazy.

Anywho, yesterday after work I was just puttin’ along cutting the grass when, all of the sudden, a band (I’m not even going to attempt to explain this one) came off and made the lawn mower completely unusable.

I called Alex in a frenzy to get some insight on what the heck just happened. He tried to walk me through putting the band back on, but no dice. It was already getting dark outside (remember how I did this after I got home from work??) and I couldn’t even reach one of the pulley things (very technical here people) much less connect anything to it.

I ended up calling my mom’s boyfriend, Don, who conveniently works on these beasts every day!

When I got home from work today, NOT ONLY was the mower back in mint condition, but the rest of the lawn had been cut for me!!!! A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. Apparently cutting the grass for me is an instant way to completely make my day. Another big thank you to Don and Stan!

Freshly cut goodness.

How ‘bout that? Two truly random acts of kindness. Anything like this happen to you lately??

(Yes, I do wear Christmas pajama pants all year round.

I’m off to bed! We’ve got rain (and maybe hail??) hitting the roof and windows right now beckoning me to listen. You know that’s the absolute best way to fall asleep!

Goodnight my friends!

What’s Up Jupiter?

This is a reallllly random post. Enjoy 🙂

So apparently Jupiter is missing a stripe? I’m just as confused as the scientists as to why this happens. Check out the article here on CNN. Also, check out this super-creepy picture of the disappearing belt.

Oh hey -- where'd you go?

Last night we had a riveting night of grocery shopping. Although it wasn’t my first choice of activities after a long and tiring day — it is really nice to have a fresh stock of fruits and veggies. Since moving to “the floor” at work and getting my current work schedule, I don’t get home until pretty late (6:30). By the time we shopped, got home, put everything away, and made dinner it was really late. I don’t usually like to eat a big meal so late, buuuuut we picked up such great food that we couldn’t wait to eat it! We made corn on the cob, broccoli (and cheese), and a delicious piece of steak 🙂 It had been forever since we had a nice piece of red meat so it was quite the treat! (And it’s making a debut in my lunch as well!)

What are you’re weekend plans?

I’m hoping to have a nice relaxing weekend. I’ve been really busy the last few weekends and could definitely use some time to unwind. Some friends from high school are back in town though — and I may have to make some time to see them 🙂 Hopefully we’ll get a change to go hiking or some other outdoor festivity. Maybe I’ll even wash my car — maybe.
