Curb Appeal

While the husband is off “playing Army” for a bit, it’s a good time to recap some of the progress we’ve made in the last few weeks.

Since we spent our entire winter remodeling some indoor projects (i.e our bathroom gut and remodel, and most recently, our bedroom hallway), we’ve been anxious to get outside now that the weather is getting nice.

First up, we power washed our house to get all of the nasty gunk off. Then we prepped our garden for the season, installed an underground pet fence and ordered 5 yards of mulch for future projects.

We have so many awesome ideas to spruce up the front of our house. Some of these projects are more long term and will most likely require professional help. However, we have a ton of projects that we can do ourselves!

In order to gain a little curb appeal, we decided to add a new flower bed close to the road.

First, we bought and planted a beautiful Japanese Maple tree to celebrate our upcoming one year anniversary.

We mapped out our future flower bed with a hose (you can slightly see it in the photo above) before we purchased our plants. After we took the plunged and swiped our card, we laid out the plants.

We dug and dug… and dug… and planted.

Next, we laid out some weed blocker and dug a little trench.

What’s next? Mulch. Duh.

I’m not going to lie, this. took. f.o.r.e.v.e.r. AND it was surprisingly really tough. I completely understand why people pay good money to have someone else do this for them. Still… will we pay someone to do this in the future? No, probably not.

It’s not completely finished. We still have plans to plant some bigger green shrubs…

Which we also have in our backyard and will eventually look like this…(iphone photo from last summer)

Of course the plants still have a lot of growing to do, they remind me of awkward adolescent puppies whose legs are way too long for their skinny bodies.

Is that stretching a comparison too far?

How have you been enjoying the nicer weather?
