Virginia is for…. Lovin’

Good Morning and Happy Monday! Doesn’t it seem increasingly more difficult to steer your mind away from weekend-mode and hop back in the work week saddle? At least I have one more half hour of weekend glory left in me as I give you a little taste of our weekend.

Let’s get to it, shall we?

Friday night started with a 3 hour drive to central Virginia. Thankfully, I decided to wait a couple hours before trying to get on the road and was able to miss most of the traffic around DC. I met Alex and some of his buddies around 9:30 at a local karaoke bar called Wild Rose Café. I had fun sipping on a Shock Top beer as I watched Alex sing “Sittin’ on the Dock of the Bay.”

After about an hour, we were both exhausted from the long day and headed to our hotel. Surprisingly we both slept until after 9:30 on Saturday, which seemed like a miracle. We quickly grabbed some breakfast from the hotel and got ready for the day. We drove up to Richmond, VA and had a blast walking around the quaint historic side of the city. We meandered through little shops and stopped for lunch at an awesome Irish restaurant called Sin é. Here we are as we enjoyed our meal.

Once we finished with lunch, we went to some antique stores in the area. Literally, we wandered around this ginormous antique mall in Charlottesville for hours. I spent only $13 and walked away with three awesome old jars and an antique car battery. The battery sounds weird, but it’s encased in wood, about the size of your hand – and super cool. I’ll show you a picture, don’t worry! A thunderstorm started to roll in and we decided to go back to our room to rest a bit before grabbing dinner at a Mexican restaurant near our hotel.

On Sunday we were up bright and early! After breakfast, we drove through a historic little town and felt compelled to park and explore a little more. We found a Trading Store from the 1700s that burnt down. The town preserved the burnt down building and was really cool to look around.

Alex also drove me through the local military base before we continued our journey to Williamsburg. It was a beautiful drive and we really enjoyed chit-chatting for an hour before we got to Williamsburg. Although, I wish I could tell you that we had a great time walking through the colonial town – we didn’t. It was hot as heck and super humid. We only had a few hours so we didn’t want to spend $40 each to walk into the colonial homes and buildings. It would be an awesome place to spend an entire weekend – we just didn’t have the time! So we basically walked around in the hot, humid afternoon laughing at each other.

We grabbed some lunch at a delicious pizza place called ZPizza. Since we were burnin’ up, we thought we might as well enjoy a pitcher of beer. It was perfect!

Unfortunately after we drove back to the room, it was time for me to leave. I had a long and dreadful trip ahead of me. While the trip down was a breeze, the trip home was spent going 15 mph through severe thunderstorms. The only positive things were that I had Hootie and the Blowfish to keep me company and a dog to look forward to. After I picked up Hunter from my mom’s house, I hustled home.

Once I arrived home after being in the car for four hours, I admired the new dishwasher that’s sitting in the middle of our kitchen floor (hopefully it will get installed this weekend!).

I checked out the progress that my garden made while I was away for a couple days.

I slapped on a face mask.

And I enjoyed some juice from my new Redneck Wine Glass. How awesome is this bad boy??
