Wedding Menu and Cake

A couple weeks ago, Alex and I met with our caterer to select our menu for the wedding. This is the first time we met them and were pleasantly surprised!

When we selected our location and date for our wedding, another couple sent in their contract just hours before we did. They wanted the same location on the same day. Thankfully they requested the mansion for the afternoon, and we wanted the evening!

Even though we lucked out and were able to keep our date and time, we did have to make a sacrifice. Since the other couple returned a signed contract before us, they were able to select the caterer. Considering there won’t be a ton of time between the two weddings, our location requires that any weddings on the same day use the same caterer.

So, we were stuck waiting for the other couple to select the caterer they wanted.

Originally we were both a little upset that we wouldn’t be able to select who we wanted to work with on our big day for such a vital part of the wedding. We wanted this location so badly, that we simply decided to cross our fingers and pray that they selected a decent caterer.

Luckily the other couple has great taste! I’ve been emailing back and forth with one of the caterers for months now, and we were finally ready to meet for our tasting!

Tasting our wedding food and cake was by far the best wedding experience we’ve had so far! Other than being uncomfortably full, we so happy and excited when we walked out the door. We had to menu and cake all picked out, which is a major accomplishment!!

Here’s a line up for things we tried:

Appetizers:

  • Crab Dip
  • Hot Spinach Dip
  • Baked Brie
  • Three type of Bruschetta
  • Olive Tapenade
  • Hummus
  • (I clearly should have written this earlier because I don’t remember the rest)

Salad:

  • Caesar
  • Fresh Greens (think feta, pecans, raspberry dressing)

Entrees:

  • Beef Tips
  • Poached Salmon with Dill Sauce
  • Terijaki Salmon
  • Flank Steak
  • Seafood Newberg (scallops, shrimp, swordfish, and lobster in a cream(ish) sauce served over rice)

Sides:

  • Garlic Mashed Potatoes
  • Roasted Potatoes
  • Roasted Vegetables
  • Broccoli

And of course rolls and the other normal stuff.

Originally I was planning on revealing everything we chose… but I think I might hold off. Everything we picked, we’re extremely happy with and we were elated when they gave us a giant bag of food to bring home with us.

I just want something to be a surprise for the massive amount of you that are coming to the wedding in May.

We also tasted our cake 🙂

  1. How fun! I am now hungry!

    The menu is my main stressor right now with my own wedding planning. Fiance wants filet mignon (obviously making the menu more formal) and I’m thinking of an assortment of sliders, fresh salads, pasta salad, and fruit and cheeses. Nothing heavy because its summer and an afternoon wedding…I’m sure it will all work out in the end.

  2. That was one of the best parts of wedding planning! Cake tasting ROCKS!!!! We chose a 3 tier cake with 2 layers vanilla cake w/white chocolate mousse filling, and 1 layer chocolate cake with oreo cream & it was the best cake I’ve ever tasted!! You can choose which colors you want to frost the cake with if you just ask. It made it more personalized than the usual all white. Here’s a pic of our cake.
