Twas the week before Christmas, when all through the city
Not a creature was still, not even a kitty.
The stockings were hung but still empty and bleak,
In knowledge that St Nicholas still had a whole week.
The children were still in school, stuck in the grind.
While visions of Santa danced in their minds.
And mamma at Home Depot, and I at the mall,
Had just settled our wallets for a long winter’s hall.
When at the register there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the line to see what was the matter.
Away to the clerk I flew in a flash,
I tore past the slow pokes and threw up my cash.
An announcement was made, the end was near
Only one Furby remained, we screamed out in fear.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a small box, I could see it most clear.
With a pep in my step, I crept to the back,
I knew in a moment I was queen of the pact.
More rapid than eagles, I ran to the shelf,
And I whistled, and shouted, “I’m just like an elf!”
“Now Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! On, Cupid! on, Donner and Blitzen!”
I ran to the front with the stupid little toy,
Not even you, brown and furry, can bring this joy!
As the crowds pick up before the magical day,
I was met with an obstacle, “Agh what the hay!”
So I took my purse and as hard as I could,
I stole my toy back from inside the thieves hood.
And then, in a twinkling, I heard a small mutter
“This isn’t the point! You silly little scutter.”
At that moment I knew, I had it all wrong
It wasn’t about this toy. No! It was all about song!
I threw on my coat and out the door I ran,
I needed to get home, I had a plan!
A smile on my face and flour in my hand,
I got to the kitchen and cookies were panned.
I busted out my tunes and started my singing
All of the sudden, bells were ‘a ringing!
“Now I have it right”, I shouted in glee
My eyes started to shine, like the lights on the tree!
Now I’m ready, it was clear in just a heart beat
Bring on Christmas. Now I know it’s no feat!
I can feel the day approaching, it’s barely in sight!!
“Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!”
